» Blog 3: A short story.
This will be a short story for my most recent . I woke up from my sleep; a nightmare crept under my skin, leaving my body as if it were a sour sludge being removed. I sit up and scan my hotel room, the wallpaper with indescribable patterns leaving the mind blank. Leaving the safety and warmth of my covers, I feel a pull to the front door, step after step on the cold tile past the carpet of the bedroom. My feet stand steps from the exit, now a sound of mucousy plop repeating out my door, ticking away at my head, nevermore. Slowly my hand raises to the cold brass knob; a twist of my wrist and an eerie twang of the inner spring snap me to a state of fear. The sound grows seemingly louder the longer I wait, hand firmly holding the doorknob down. With a pop, my arm jerks back and opens the heavy wooden door, swinging it past my body. I lean out into the cold hall. To my left, nothing but doors stretching on into the hallway, while a stench crawls its way up my nose. Snapping my neck around to the stench. I see it. Long twisted torso curved down and around like a contortionist, neck spun one hundred eighty degrees around to face me. Its long, wide jaw and splinter-like teeth stab my vision like knives, and as I snap my photo, I feel my throat choke up.» Blog 2: A postmortem and plan.
Time for my next idea. After finishing broken and cleaning it up with some patches im happy with where it sits. I do think improvments could have been made and i've taken these faults into account for my next project, speaking of which i've already begun planning some ideas for said project but I wont be spilling any secrets yet. Nothing major else to report on, hopefully i'll have some time to start on concept art and get back to sharing more art.» Blog 1: End of day progress.
Working on more than intended.For project "Broken"Work on my recent project and intentionally ballooned far beyond what it ever was intended to be, and for the better, I believe. If all goes well, I should be releasing in time still, but now with a game that has both substance and aesthetics. During my time with this project, I've focused on keeping all elements of the game in line with each other. Making sure all sound effects are just as good as the models, story, and gameplay. All of this work should hopefully develop into a much more polished and pristine game, yet I worry that all my work is pouring into what is ultimately a boring and uninspired game. Plans are for 2-3 more levels that expand on story and gameplay (plus length). I'm going for a more quiet style of horror, stepping away from audio stingers and focusing more on the control of the game and its removal along with visually striking moments. Today I implemented some changes to the monster; now it has an activation radius, so multiple can exist, and they won't immediately find you. Monster footsteps now sound more directional to assist players. Sewer 2 has been modeled, UV'd, textured, and implemented in the game. Sewer 1 has been half polished and still needs some SFX and interactions.
